Service Management: Operations, Strategy, Information Technology w/Student CD ReviewThe topic of operations management is ever associated with manufacturing and industry. But it is also applicated to the service industry nowadays, since most of the new corporations are selling services.
The book covers all the topics: how to plan, how to create the service, how to test and finally reinvent. All the issues are covered with many examples, very clear. The book also contains a CD (I haven't explored it yet!!)
Only two points to improve:
- the book is a first book on the topic. Not good if you are an incumbent.
- it doesn't give any innovation in the field.
And finally, too expensive!!!Service Management: Operations, Strategy, Information Technology w/Student CD OverviewBalancing conceptual and applied coverage of all aspects of the management and operation of services, Service Management has maintained the position as market leader through five previous editions. It is the most comprehensive and widely used introduction to service operations on the market, written by one of the top authorities on the subject, and it is designed to develop students' skills in both strategic and operational issues pertaining to services. New material on Professional Service Firms highlights IBM's initiative to establish a Service Science, Management, and Engineering discipline. The Sixth Edition also offers the latest information on Six-Sigma and RFID, as well as recent developments in other important industry topics.Text coverage spans both qualitative and quantitative aspects of service management and offers flexibility in courses, offering varying approaches to the study of service operations. The ancillary package includes student CD-ROM and Website that includes self-test quizzes, video clips, ServiceModel Software, and the Mortgage Service Game.

Student Entrepreneurs: 14 Undergraduate All-Stars Tell Their Stories ReviewStudent Entrepreneurs is an inspiring collection of stories about young people who have become extremely successful at owning and operating their own businesses while juggling the scholastic and social demands of being college students. Some of the students highlighted in this book come from impoverished backgrounds; many of the students are from middle class homes; some point out that they are children of divorced parents. But what all of these young people have in common is the inexplicable desire from a very young age to operate their own businesses -- to make money, to succeed, to prove themselves, to give back to the community. These student "all stars" give the reader their "tips" for success. They often share anecdotes about how they learned their valuable lessons the hard way (to spare the reader from making the same mistakes). If you are someone who also dreams of owning or operating your own business -- or if you know of someone who is harboring such dreams -- this is a "must have" book. The knowledge these young people impart for starting a business is extremely valuable. But even if you are not interested in being your own boss, this book still is of great value. First of all, it's inspiring. I walked away from this book thinking, "Wow. There is so much more that I could be doing with my own life. If these young adults can do all of this at such a young age, surely I can do more with my time and talents!" Secondly, it's encouraging to see what the next generation can do. Sometimes it's hard not to get depressed and think, "Is there any hope for this world?" To read this book is to have your question answered with a resounding "yes", there is hope for this world. The next generation is just as amazing and impressive as the past generation greats have been. Innovation, invention, hard work, and strong goals are not dead. Thirdly, the advice of these young people is helpful not only for the budding entrepreneur, but also for anyone living life in general. Their messages to believe in oneself, to not get discouraged, to pursue one's dreams, to work hard, to give back to the community, to persevere, are lessons we all need, whether we are starting our own businesses or have other goals in life. This book is well written, inspirational, and educational. I highly recommend it for anyone who wishes to succeed in business and in life in general.Student Entrepreneurs: 14 Undergraduate All-Stars Tell Their Stories Overview
