Service Management: Operations, Strategy, Information Technology w/Student CD ReviewThe topic of operations management is ever associated with manufacturing and industry. But it is also applicated to the service industry nowadays, since most of the new corporations are selling services.
The book covers all the topics: how to plan, how to create the service, how to test and finally reinvent. All the issues are covered with many examples, very clear. The book also contains a CD (I haven't explored it yet!!)
Only two points to improve:
- the book is a first book on the topic. Not good if you are an incumbent.
- it doesn't give any innovation in the field.
And finally, too expensive!!!Service Management: Operations, Strategy, Information Technology w/Student CD OverviewBalancing conceptual and applied coverage of all aspects of the management and operation of services, Service Management has maintained the position as market leader through five previous editions. It is the most comprehensive and widely used introduction to service operations on the market, written by one of the top authorities on the subject, and it is designed to develop students' skills in both strategic and operational issues pertaining to services. New material on Professional Service Firms highlights IBM's initiative to establish a Service Science, Management, and Engineering discipline. The Sixth Edition also offers the latest information on Six-Sigma and RFID, as well as recent developments in other important industry topics.Text coverage spans both qualitative and quantitative aspects of service management and offers flexibility in courses, offering varying approaches to the study of service operations. The ancillary package includes student CD-ROM and Website that includes self-test quizzes, video clips, ServiceModel Software, and the Mortgage Service Game.

Basic Marketing w/Student CD ReviewI needed this book for my Marketing class at CSUDH. It's a good book, but I really feel it could be half as long as it is and still be useful. It tries to offer a lot of information, and it does, but it also winds up repeating a lot of the same concepts over and over. Shorter would be better. And of course, cheaper would be great!Basic Marketing w/Student CD OverviewBasic Marketing 16e builds on the foundation pillars of previous editions the four Ps framework, managerial orientation, and strategy planning focus. 16e builds upon its pioneering beginnings that introduced the four Ps to the introductory marketing course. The unifying focus of Basic Marketing has always been on how to make the marketing decisions that a manager must make in deciding what customers to focus on and how best to meet their needs. Over many editions there has been constant change in marketing management and the marketing environment. Some of the changes have been dramatic, and others have been subtle. As a result, the authors have made ongoing changes to the text to reflect marketings best practices and ideas. Throughout all of these changes, Basic Marketing and the supporting materials that accompany it have been more widely used than any other teaching materials for introductory marketing. Consistent with our belief in continuous quality improvement, this edition has been critically revised, updated, and rewritten to reflect new concepts, new examples, and recent best practices. This edition extends the strategy planning approach, integrating concepts tightly with the marketing strategy planning model.

Managerial Economics with Student CD ReviewIn today's academic world we find many books trying to satisfy a broad range of material and actualities. Many pictures and comparisons to every-day names in the community of doing business. There are margin sidebars and multi colored wheels and stratified graphs and celebrity endorsements with pictures of CEOs doing "CEO" stuff. There are pictures of workers doing "worker" stuff. There are pictures of trains and planes and cars and trucks and machines and teams and all sorts of add-in ornamentally to make certain we "Get the Picture".
This book is reminiscent of the textbooks of the past; solid writing directed to graphic explanation without a constant assault of reinforcing Getty Images - of limited value beyond the design department of the publisher. When a business practitioner wants to refer to previous material - that person wants core decision-making reference to the issue being considered, not the comic book layout of the pages.

Managerial Economics can be considered a practitioners guide to managing the issues of micro economics. The platform of how to get to an R Squared of R1.0000. A truly worthwhile business book.
Managerial Economics with Student CD OverviewThomas and Maurice's Managerial Economics teaches students how to use microeconomic theory to analyze business decisions. In a clear and engaging writing style, Christopher Thomas carries on the tradition he and Charles Maurice shepherded for eight previous editions in the 9th edition. The 9th Edition explores the current market forces that create both opportunities and constraints for business enterprises. The book has enjoyed success in part because of its mid-level of rigor, clarity of presentation, and end-of-chapter material.

Concise Guide to Macroeconomics: What Managers, Executives, and Students Need to Know ReviewIt is rare to find a book so aptly described by its title as "A Concise Guide to Macroeconomics." The book really is concise; the text is only 141 pages long, and even that number might give an exaggerated impression because there are fairly wide margins and two blank pages between each chapter, as well as numerous graphs and tables. Yet in those 141 pages, this guidebook covers the essentials of output and GDP accounting, the role of money, interest and expectations in monetary policy and business cycles, a brief monetary history of the United States, as well as the basics of international economics: why countries trade, how to read a balance of payments statement, and what sorts of forces move exchange rates.
The tables and charts scattered throughout the book provide excellent intuition for understanding international comparisons of GDP, the history of business cycles, or whatever topic is presently at hand. All of these media are well referenced in the text, clearly explained, and contain up-to-date information. Moss also illustrates some concepts, such as the Ricardian theory of comparative advantage, with examples of his own; these too are excellent.
What impresses me most about the book is that Moss seems to have gotten the technical level just right: this book has none of the anecdote-ridden flakiness so common to journalistic writing about economics, nor is it ponderous or over-burdened with theory. This guide will aptly explain the essentials of the field to those who are curious; I know of no other book like it, and I cannot recommend it highly enough. If you have any lingering doubts (you shouldn't) just click on the "Search Inside" icon at the top of the page, and click "Surprise Me" to get a random sample of Moss's writing.Concise Guide to Macroeconomics: What Managers, Executives, and Students Need to Know OverviewNow more than ever before, executives and managers need to understand their larger economic context. In A Concise Guide to Macroeconomics, David Moss leverages his many years of teaching experience at Harvard Business School to lay out important macroeconomic concepts in engaging, clear, and concise terms. In a simple and intuitive way, he breaks down the ideas intooutput, money, andexpectations. In addition, Moss introduces powerful tools for interpreting the big-picture economic developments that shape events in the contemporary business arena. Detailed examples are also drawn from history to illuminate important concepts. This book is destined to become a staple in MBA courses as well as the go-to resource for executives and managers at all levels seeking to brush up on their knowledge of macroeconomic dynamics.
