Economics Today plus MyEconLab plus eBook 2-semester Student Access Kit (14th Edition) ReviewI'm a college graduate planning on going to Grad School in the next year or so. I've also spent some years in the military, so I would assume that I have some knowledge in what makes a book good/bad in terms of explaining what it's supposed to teach.
This textbook is horrible and I feel sorry for any freshman/sophomore/AP Economics student out there who is required to use this book for their economics class. The explanations and examples in this book are either vague or aren't explained very well. There are times when I'll spend an hour on a concept because its explanations are poorly written.
If you are part of the unlucky group who has to use this for text, get ready to do some intense reading just to understand what the authors are talking about. I can't wait for this quarter to be over. On the bright side, it comes with a workbook that does a pretty good job of preparing you for the tests as long as the teacher uses the questions from the manual that they use.
Back to studying!Economics Today plus MyEconLab plus eBook 2-semester Student Access Kit (14th Edition) Overview Readers learn best when they see a concept applied in the context of examples they understand. Macroeconomics plus MyEconLab plus eBook 1-semester Student Access Kit (6th Edition) ReviewThe book is good. It contains loads of historical charts, graphs and tables.
However although I can describe accurately I preferred the Mankiw book. I can't really say why, but I though Mankiw was an easier read. This does not mean that this book is bad, in fact it is quite good.
Mankiw Book0 MacroeconomicsMacroeconomics plus MyEconLab plus eBook 1-semester Student Access Kit (6th Edition) Overview Abel, Bernanke, and Croushore present macroeconomic theory in a way that prepares readers to analyze real macroeconomic data used by policy makers and researchers. Physics for Scientists and Engineers, Chapters 1-39 (with Student Tools CD-ROM) ReviewFor my physics for physics majors series, my professor is using the Giancoli books. Within those books there are multiple problems that the book does not give you any clue how to solve. The sheer number of these problems eliminates the chance that they are there to help the physics student figure it out for themselves. I was having "fun" with one of the problems in the book, when one of my neighbors stated that he remembered doing a similar problem from his Serway book. He showed me his book, and sure enough, there was a detailed explanation of how to solve that type of problem, and how they derived their equations. The fact that they used no calculus to derive the equation when it was unneccesary in my opinion was a plus. Five stars to a book that can solve the problems in other books!Physics for Scientists and Engineers, Chapters 1-39 (with Student Tools CD-ROM) OverviewThis best-selling, calculus-based text is recognized for its carefully crafted, logical presentation of the basic concepts and principles of physics. Raymond Serway, Robert Beichner, and contributing author John W. Jewett present a strong problem-solving approach that is further enhanced through increased realism in worked examples. Problem-solving strategies and hints allow students to develop a systematic approach to completing homework problems. The outstanding ancillary package includes full multimedia support, online homework, and a content-rich Web site that provides extensive support for instructors and students. The CAPA (Computer-assisted Personalized Approach), WebAssign, and University of Texas homework delivery systems give instructors flexibility in assigning online homework.

Economics plus MyEconLab in CourseCompass plus eBook Student Access Kit (13th Edition) ReviewIn this book (the twelfth edition) every economic subject is very well explained without difficult mathemayical concepts. People who like the mathematical approach can find something in the appendix. There are a lot of examples about real facts happened to real companies (Microsoft,...) or organization (OPEC...). The logic approach and the examples are very usefull for a beginner that first of all has to understand the main concepts rather than struggling in a difficult language or math.Economics plus MyEconLab in CourseCompass plus eBook Student Access Kit (13th Edition) Overview When asked to describe this text, most Lipsey readers use the same word: precise. Theauthors do not gloss over subjects when presenting economic ideas;rather, they offer a patient explanation of the concept and back it upwith the latest research and data. Taken separately, neither theory nordata alone can give readers a true understanding of the idea, but whencombined these elements give students a complete view of economics inthe real world. Economics of Money, Banking, and Financial Markets plus MyEconLab Student Access Kit , The, Seventh Edition ReviewIf you're an independent learner; that is, not enrolled as a student in a course at a school, OR IF YOU ARE, BUT THE INSTRUCTOR IS NOT PARTICIPATING (Using the MyEconLab software for course materials), and thus can't provide you with a COURSEID, a warning about the MyEconLab study aid attachment to this textbook; the instructions for registering to use MyEconLab are less than candid.

They just say that without a CourseId you can still access "most of the online resources listed." You are directed to a generic Mishkin web site instead of registering at the main MyEconLab portal.
Being an honest person, I used the alternate registration. I was still asked for the ZIP for my school; I used my own. I then got a list of local schools or "Other" to choose from. I chose other, and entered "Independent Learner".
The registration then completed; the confirmation stated it is only good for SIX MONTHS.
If you go to the main MyEconLab Web portal shown in the user manual after registering as a non-student, your user ID will not be recognized. You have to use a generic portal for the Mishkin textbook instead.
What you get there is:
e-textbook, glossary, FLASH animated graphs, chapter quizzes and Web links from the textbook margins
The Weekly news selection (web links, so may expire; earliest was Aug. 2004)
The "Chapter Readings" in journals, etc. (ditto above)
Since these can expire at their parent web sites, I suggest you take the precaution of printing them out (I use Acrobat to make PDF files or download PDF files if available at the source). Also check out any links in the articles and do the same.
The Readings are probably the best of what you DO get, along with the animations and quizzes. The web links are updated, that's OK if you're not good at figuring that sort of thing out for yourself.
There is also a series of Chapter Appendices, not printed in the book, available with the e-text of the book at the alternate site.
WHAT YOU WON'T GET:
"Foundations Interactive" (whatever that is)
"MathXL for Econ" - the math review tutorial (would be nice)
"Research Navigator"
"eThemes of the Times"
The last two are a REAL Disappointment to me, because the Navigator (see textbook Preface) is supposed (among other things) to provide "a complete YEAR of search for full-text articles from the New York Times" and "Best of Web Link Library of peer-reviewed web sites." The last is described in the Preface as "thematically related articles from the NYTimes accompanied by critical-thinking questions." I was looking forward to these, because the NYTimes charges $$ by the article for archived (non-current) articles, and this can get expensive in a hurry, and an increasing number of other web sites, including industry association journals are now similarly archive and have paid access only.
So without being enrolled in a class that has an instructor who is using the course material software, you won't be able to access some of the BEST of the advertised materials of the MyEconLab add on.
They could have been clearer about WHAT exactly you would have had access to. They also could have said that the non-student registration is only good for 6 months, since the description of the NYTimes access for a full year (which you don't get at all) might reasonably lead one to infer that the registration is valid for a year.
And I fail to see why they couldn't throw in at least the Math review tutorial, since it wouldn't seem to involve any kind of outside contract or royalty such as the NYTimes access might.
Economics of Money, Banking, and Financial Markets plus MyEconLab Student Access Kit , The, Seventh Edition OverviewThis market-leading text provides the most authoritative, applications-rich coverage of key concepts, models, and issues in money and banking. Frederick Mishkin previously held the post of Executive Vice President and Director of Research at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York. His writing style, latest research, and discussion of policy issues keep his text at the forefront of money and banking.Every new student textbook comes with an access kit to MyEconLab for Mishkin, an online suite of student and instructor tools built around an online version of the entire textbook.

International Economics: Theory and Policy plus MyEconLab plus eText 1-semester Student Access Kit (8th Edition) ReviewI had this text for an International Finance course focused mostly on Exchange Rates and Macro Policy Decisions. I thought the authors did a fairly thorough job explaining theory and policy. A fair amount of examples, too. Very light on the math, so if you're looking for something more advanced you might want to look at Obstfeld's other book. Also, I used the web site tools associated with the text. Found that to be okay, with the major flaw that the solutions were not fully explained or referenced to the text. It's a good read, and I think most will find it useful.International Economics: Theory and Policy plus MyEconLab plus eText 1-semester Student Access Kit (8th Edition) Overview Renowned researchers Paul Krugman and MauriceObstfeld set the standard for international economics courses with thetext that remains the market leader in the U.S. and around the world. International Economics: Theory and Policyis a proven approach in which each half of the book leads with anintuitive introduction to theory and follows with self-containedchapters to cover key policy applications. The Eighth Edition integratesthe latest research, data, and policy in hot topics such asoutsourcing, economic geography, trade and environment, financialderivatives, the sub prime crisis, and China's exchange rate policies. Introduction. International Trade Theory: WorldTrade: An Overview; Labor Productivity and Comparative Advantage: TheRicardian Model; Resources, Comparative Advantage, and IncomeDistribution; The Standard Trade Model; Economies of Scale, ImperfectCompetition, and International Trade; International Factor Movements. Introductory Econometrics: A Modern Approach (with Economic Applications, Data Sets, Student Solutions Manual Printed Access Card) ReviewI teach a first course in regression analysis to graduate students from a variety of disciplines. With rare exceptions, they take this course under duress, and their background in basic statistics is usually weak. This means that I use a lot of relatively simple examples, gradually becoming more complex as we move through the material. Functional redundancy -- saying the same thing in a variety of ways -- is also indispensable. Furthermore, I spend very little time on derivations, and try to begin doing simple problems with SPSS software by the second or third meeting.
Given this approach to fairly complex material, it is difficult to find a suitable textbook. For several years I used Gujarati's basic econometrics text and found it useful. Gujarati, however, takes a very long time to get to multiple regression, first covering the assumptions which apply to all applications of OLS regression and offering only simple regression equations for illustrative purposes.
A primary virtue of Wooldridge's basic text is that he introduces substantively interesting problems -- those using more than one independent variable -- early on. The OLS assumptions and remedies for their violation are still given excellent coverage, but this is integrated effectively throughout the book.
Wooldridge's text is a bit more difficult than Gujarati's, but it's not densely mathematical, focusing instead on practical problems. With a little guidance students acquire a very thorough grounding in regression analysis with Wooldridge's basic text. It covers a sufficiently broad range of topics, moreover, that I have found it valuable for self-instructional purposes. (If only it weren't so expensive.)
Given the foregoing, I think it is worth noting that Wooldridge's more advanced text, Econometric Analysis of Cross-Section and Panel Data, is not written in the same spirit as his introductory text. Most readers who do not use econometrics every day will, I think, find it quite difficult, presupposing a good deal of mathematical preparation, including practiced facility in using matrix algebra.Introductory Econometrics: A Modern Approach (with Economic Applications, Data Sets, Student Solutions Manual Printed Access Card) OverviewINTRODUCTORY ECONOMETRICS: A MODERN APPROACH, 4e illustrates how empirical researchers think about and apply econometric methods in real-world practice. The text's unique approach reflects the fact that undergraduate econometrics has moved beyond just a set of abstract tools to being genuinely useful for answering questions in business, policy evaluation, and forecasting environments. The systematic approach, which reduces clutter by introducing assumptions only as they are needed, makes absorbing the material easier and leads to better econometric practices. Its unique organization separates topics by the kinds of data being analyzed, leading to an appreciation for the important issues that arise in drawing conclusions from the different kinds of data economists use. Packed with relevant applications, INTRODUCTORY ECONOMETRICS offers a wealth of interesting data sets that can be used to reproduce the examples in the text or as the starting point for original research projects.

Managerial Economics with Student CD ReviewIn today's academic world we find many books trying to satisfy a broad range of material and actualities. Many pictures and comparisons to every-day names in the community of doing business. There are margin sidebars and multi colored wheels and stratified graphs and celebrity endorsements with pictures of CEOs doing "CEO" stuff. There are pictures of workers doing "worker" stuff. There are pictures of trains and planes and cars and trucks and machines and teams and all sorts of add-in ornamentally to make certain we "Get the Picture".
This book is reminiscent of the textbooks of the past; solid writing directed to graphic explanation without a constant assault of reinforcing Getty Images - of limited value beyond the design department of the publisher. When a business practitioner wants to refer to previous material - that person wants core decision-making reference to the issue being considered, not the comic book layout of the pages.

Managerial Economics can be considered a practitioners guide to managing the issues of micro economics. The platform of how to get to an R Squared of R1.0000. A truly worthwhile business book.
Managerial Economics with Student CD OverviewThomas and Maurice's Managerial Economics teaches students how to use microeconomic theory to analyze business decisions. In a clear and engaging writing style, Christopher Thomas carries on the tradition he and Charles Maurice shepherded for eight previous editions in the 9th edition. The 9th Edition explores the current market forces that create both opportunities and constraints for business enterprises. The book has enjoyed success in part because of its mid-level of rigor, clarity of presentation, and end-of-chapter material.
