Saxon Math Course 3 (2007 Student edition) ReviewWe started using this book the day we received it. After using it for a short time my daughter's math grade went up. Unlike her school text book, this book explains the math concepts and gives examples much better. Also, there is more repetition and the sequence examples makes more sense than her school text book.
This book has helped me to reinforce concepts in a more effective way because I understand the concepts much better and can both explain as well as give examples of what we are talking about.

The Portfolio Connection: Student Work Linked to Standards ReviewIn this day and age of accountability and NCLB, the human element of teaching unfortunately goes to the wayside. Teachers might hear from their students, "school isnt fun anymore." This book really guides teachers into bringing back the joy of school and celebrate student work. There are plenty of examples, forms, ideas, etc. to get the teacher going. I LOVE THE CHECKLIST BASED ON STANDARDS!!! Although I have yet to implement, I shared the ideas with my colleagues, who then implemented the ideas and say their kids love having a portfolio and "when can we make the next one?" This is definately a purchase you sould make along with Kay Burke's other book, "From Standards to Rubrics in Six Steps: Tools for Assessing Student Learning, K-8."The Portfolio Connection: Student Work Linked to Standards OverviewThis third edition covers implementing portfolios that incorporate standards. Includes examples for students with special needs, plus expanded information on e-portfolios and NCLB's impact on assessment.

Instructing Students Who Have Literacy Problems (with MyEducationLab) (6th Edition) ReviewI teach literacy methods at Minnesota State University, Mankato for general education teachers as well as teachers of students with learning disabilities. McCormick's book provides a very sound basis for understanding all aspects of literacy instruction for special needs populations as it relates to assessment and instructional interventions.
I especially apprecite that four chapters are devoted to assessment. Excellent. She provides a very thorough analysis of the different types and purposes of assessment and includes informal assessment along with formal assessment.
This is not designed to be a beginnng text for literacy instruction. It is designed to build upon an existing body of knowledge related to literacy instruction. It would be benificial for all classroom teachers to understand, however, it is especially suited for reading specialists and special education LD instructors who teach literacy.
Dr. Andrew JohnsonInstructing Students Who Have Literacy Problems (with MyEducationLab) (6th Edition) OverviewInstructing Students Who Have Literacy Problems has long been valued because it covers both assessment and instructional strategies in a sound, research-based format. It reflects a balanced view of literacy instruction, comprehensively examining both word study and comprehension. It is the definitive research-based book on assessment and instruction of struggling readers. Four complete chapters on formal and informal assessment, plus chapters on instructional interventions, including reading instruction for special populations, allow professors the option of using the book for one inclusive course, or, using it across two courses in those universities where diagnosis and instruction are taught separately. Many case studies of students, as well as vignettes of teachers in action, illustrate real-world applications of the textbook content. There are practical strategies suggested in the text for elementary and secondary students and for students from a variety of language backgrounds. This valuable book will successfully guide teachers so they can best help students who have reading difficulties – difficulties of all types and at all levels of severity. 0131381520 / 9780131381520 Instructing Students Who Have Literacy Problems (with MyEducationLab) Package consists of: 0135140870 / 9780135140871 MyEducationLab Student Access Code Card 0137023588 / 9780137023585 Instructing Students Who Have Literacy Problems(Cloth)
