Cambridge Latin Course Unit 2 Student's book North American edition (North American Cambridge Latin Course) ReviewThis series almost entirely bases its learning technique around translations, introducing new grammar concepts as they appear in the readings. This is a very different approach from most languages, but for teaching Latin, it is a very effective one. If you are getting back into Latin and familiar with the rudimentary concepts I would recommend starting with book 2. For beginners, book 1 is a must- I promise it's worth it. It's fun to read and easy to follow along with. Real Science-4-Kids Chemistry Level 1 Student Text ReviewI am using this book to teach a study club with girls ages 8-12. I am very pleased with the format, it is easy for all of us to use. Teacher prep. time is minimal. The other instructor has a strong background in chemistry so at first we relied on her but that background is not necessary to sucessfully use this material. I appreciate that although the text is simplified for the age group it still uses proper terminology and is not "dumbed down". The page layout is attractive and easy to sort out. (Not too much crammed into the pages.) Because we have the time and flexibility we do add related experiments from other sources but the provided lab work stands on its own very well.Real Science-4-Kids Chemistry Level 1 Student Text OverviewReal Science-4-Kids Chemistry, Level I,written at a 4th and 5th grade reading level,introduces children to college-level chemistry concepts such as the atom and periodic table, molecular bonding and chemical reactions. acid-base reactions, mixtures and separating mixtures, and large molecules such as carbohydrates, polymers and enzymes, and includes a glossary/index.

Cambridge Latin Course Unit 4 Student Text North American edition (North American Cambridge Latin Course) ReviewI found this series, the 4th edition, to be especially informative because of the inclusion of history and culture of the time period, in English, as well as colour photographs.
As for the format of the book, I found it to be an easy read. Almost every stage begins with line drawings ("cartoons"), which introduces grammar, characters and sets the "stage" for what is to follow. Then there are a number of stories in each stage; proved for fun group quiz games (EUGE!). At the end of each story new vocabulary is included. Also there are vocabulary checklists, which you should know, at the end of the stage. Sometimes, the vocabulary at the end of the stories appears in the checklists further along in book. If this becomes a problem, my suggestion would be to make flashcards for each of the stages (proven study aid).
I do think that an improvement to later editions would be to include an English-Latin dictionary of the words used within the book, as well as pronunciation. Yet, nothing that an external English-Latin = Latin-English dictionary could not handle.
