Harcourt School Publishers Science: Student Edition Grade 6 2002 ReviewI am homeschooling my children and I love these science books. Today we were reading about genetics and dominant and recessive genes. She is only in 5th grade and I do not remember learning this in depth in Science until I was in 8th grade. Cambridge Latin Course Unit 4 Student Text North American edition (North American Cambridge Latin Course) ReviewI found this series, the 4th edition, to be especially informative because of the inclusion of history and culture of the time period, in English, as well as colour photographs.
As for the format of the book, I found it to be an easy read. Almost every stage begins with line drawings ("cartoons"), which introduces grammar, characters and sets the "stage" for what is to follow. Then there are a number of stories in each stage; proved for fun group quiz games (EUGE!). At the end of each story new vocabulary is included. Also there are vocabulary checklists, which you should know, at the end of the stage. Sometimes, the vocabulary at the end of the stories appears in the checklists further along in book. If this becomes a problem, my suggestion would be to make flashcards for each of the stages (proven study aid).
I do think that an improvement to later editions would be to include an English-Latin dictionary of the words used within the book, as well as pronunciation. Yet, nothing that an external English-Latin = Latin-English dictionary could not handle.

Holt Komm Mit: Student Edition Level 1 2000 ReviewI used this book series when I was in high school to learn German very successfully. The pictures are incredibly out of date, but it all adds to the enjoyment of learning the language which you get with this book. Uncertainty, Default and Risk (==> Better done than other books. A clear distinction between Expected and Promised Cash Flows)
Capital Budgeting Applications and Pitfalls (The NPV Checklist) (==> Brilliant and useful)
From Financial Statements to Economic Cash Flows (==>A nice review of the Indirect Method approach to Cash Flows)
Pro Forma Financial Statements (==>Well done, although i would like to see a more consistent treatment of Financial Statements Forecasting for valuation purposes using the Direct Method)
Valuation from Comparables and Some Financial ratios (==> Better done than other books)
Capital Structure Dynamics and Capital Strcuture Patterns(==> The Empirical Evidence)
Epilogue (==>Insightful)
The greatest strenght of the book is the progression from the perfect market, LOP world to an imperfect market, constructing numerical examples in order to teach real problem solving.

Basic Statistics for Business and Economics with Student CD ReviewI had to get this book for a graduate level class. This is a well written book. I am coming to the conclusion that a text book needs to be in color to emphasize content or examples. This is very helpful in this book which is math laden. You will only need to know basic algebra (if that) for this material. Some higher math may help you. There are a lot of examples that show how to use the formulas. Much of which is "plug & chug" to get an answer. The concepts are well explained and there are good real-world examples. There are plenty of solutions in the back of the book. The examples also include graphs to show how the data sets are presented. There are plenty of reference tables for t, f, z and chi values. The CD that came with mine has a stat analysis add-on for Excel. It was called Megastat. I liked it better than the Excel data analysis tool. The CD had a lot of data sets to play with as well. If you can put information into a spreadsheet, you can use this book to help build an understanding of the analysis output.
